Carmen Roceli M. Lopez

Carmen or Carmz is a Feminist Nurse Leader. Aside from being the Chief Empowerment Officer of HerStore Asia, she is also an Independent Gender and Development Consultant. She has over 14 years of experience in development in both the public and private sectors. She has worked for non-government organizations’ Gawad Kalinga, VSO and CFC and the GREAT Women Project 2 of the Philippine Commission on Women. She acquired her bachelor’s degree from the University of Santo Tomas and obtained her Master of Arts in Women and Development with an Academic Excellence Award from the University of the Philippines. In 2013, she was the youngest outstanding alumna awardee of the Manila Science High School, the first science high school in the Philippines. Carmen is a YSEALI Professional Fellow, ASEAN Youth Fellow and a Swedish Institute Leadership Programme Alumna.
Chinh Nguyen

Nguyen Luong Chinh is from from Vietnam. Currently, he has been studying a Master’s Course on sustainability of rural development and environmental systems. In addition, he is also working as a Program Officer at an NGO in Vietnam, where they put more emphasis on community development for ethnic minorities in the fields of natural resource management and income generation. As an ambitious Program Officer and Junior Researcher, he is interested in seeking opportunities to contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and he feels great honor to be a part of a deeply significant project as HerStore.

I Nyoman Muskoni is from Indonesia. He is an architect and also the Co-Founder of Bali Organic Corner, a permaculture farm based in Ubud, Bali. He is interested in sustainable build environment and sustainable agricultural movement.

Mikka is a strategist and storyteller for mission-driven organizations. She has worked in the areas of education, local governance, and community development. What is HerStore Asia?

HerStore Asia is a digital empowerment platform that seeks to uplift women artisans and enterprises across Southeast Asia.

What are the countries covered by HerStore Asia?

At the moment, the countries that included are from the Southeast Asian Region: Brunei Darussalam, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.

What are the objectives of HerStore Asia?

Below are the objectives of HerStore Asia:

  • Create a democratized database/digital directory of women* artisans and enterprises that would be made accessible to potential buyers, clients and other stakeholders;
  • Present and highlight the HerStories of women* artisans and enterprises;
  • Map the location of women* artisans and enterprises;
  • Set-up an online marketplace that will feature products made by women* who are technologically challenged (coming soon); and 
  • Develop a gender-responsive and inclusive digital literacy program for women* artisans and enterprises.

*Target women artisans and enterprises include those who are physically disabled, indigenous people and those who identify as lesbian, bi, trans, queer or nonbinary.

How do you define a women artisan/group/enterprise?

A women's group/enterprise can be women-owned, women-managed, women-led or if it is male-owned, majority of the workers/members are women (more than half of workers or 50%+1)

Who can join HerStore Asia?

  • Individual woman artisan/maker/crafter/creative/designer
  • Women-owned group/enterprise
  • Women-managed/women-led group/enterprise
  • Male-owned group/enterprise but workers are mostly women (more than half of workers or 50%+1)

What are the benefits of joining HerStore Asia?

The benefit is that there is a potential for cross cultural collaboration since we will be featuring women artisans and enterprises across the region.

What happens to the database?

The database will be published in herstore.asia and the accounts submitted by the partners will be hyperlinked. The platform will be shared to potential clients, buyers and exporters worldwide through contacts, networks and other organizations that support women artisans and enterprises.

Is HerStore Asia a marketplace?

For the time-being, it is a database/directory. Part of HerStore Asia’s trajectory is to set-up a marketplace for those who are technologically challenged.
